Editing/Writing Sample Two
Born in a small town in Clayton County, Missouri, George William Sanders was raised in the little community of Prospect Hill, also in Missouri. His father, George, Sr., was employed as a janitor, and his mother worked part-time as a doctor’s receptionist.
At the age of seven, George found that being an artist and a baseball player were the things for him to become. The oldest of 3 children, he only wanted to draw and to play baseball.
The young artist’s first, formal instruction in Art began in elementary school. Then, at the age of 14, George and his family relocated to St. Louis, where he was eager to receive the higher caliber of Art education, offered at Summer High School.
During the artist’s high school years, he received many awards for his creativity- and even a scholarship to study Art at the University of Kansas. Due to the poor financial condition of his family, however, he was unable to attend that institution, and had to turn the scholarship down. George turned 18 years old, at that time.
George enlisted in the Navy, thereafter, and visited many exotic lands, occasionally sketching the things that captured his interest. He was honorably discharged from the Navy, and equipped with the G.I. Bill, awarded to him for his naval service, he attended the prestigious Chounard Institute of the Arts, in Los Angeles. There, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, in Art.
After graduating from Chounard, George worked at several low-paying, Art-related jobs. Months after his last one, he returned to school to study sculpting, for one year, at the University of California at Los Angeles.
The artist’s pursuit of a full-time career in the graphic arts and advertising field were finally realized, shortly afterwards, encompassing 25 years, in industries such as Aerospace, Medical and Healthcare, Toys, and Motion Pictures and TV. Now, he paints and draws to please himself.

Over the years, Artist George Sanders has received numerous, positive reviews of his works, from colleagues and Art Directors across the State of California. One of those reviews came from critic Naomi Baker, of the San Diego Evening Tribune. She describes his work as: “Individualist Art Expression, Honesty and Tolerance…bright colors supported by good usage of whites.” Dr. Keitman, also of the San Diego Evening Tribune, says: “…painting appeals, as oils and broad, angular style indicates a student of German impressionist Kirchner and Heckel. The usage of white with bright colors gives off an original and characteristic note.”
George Sanders is a socially conscious person, who has a healthy respect for human values and nature, expressly seen in all of his work.
